Early at the start of the day in the Indiana primaries, Senator Ted Cruz changed his campaign strategy. Standing alongside his wife and Carly Fiorina, Cruz decided to assail Donald Trump with personal attacks. He called him a “pathological liar” and a “serial philanderer,” among various insults.

Later in the day, after a defeat in the state of Indiana, before 60% of the votes had been counted, Ted Cruz surprisingly announced that he would suspend his race for the presidential nomination.

Thus Senator Cruz broke his word to his voters. He had said that he would continue to fight until the convention. He said that it would be contested nomination. He said that “Trump will have a ton of delegates, and I will have a ton of delegates,” and so forth.

But nothing helped Cruz. Not his alliance with John Kasich: the agreement that Kasich would not campaign in Indiana. Not his sudden choice of a running mate as Vice President, Carly Fiorina. Not the endorsement from the Indiana governor. Not his insults against Trump. Nothing.

Today, Governor John Kasich will announce that he too will suspend his race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Both candidates had insisted that they would continue working and campaigning to stop Trump. They argued that he had not reached the number of delegates required to win: 1,237.

Nonetheless, having reached only 1,047 delegates, Cruz and Kasich have dropped out. Cruz had 565, and Kasich had only 153.

  1. Lying lying ted. Lies lies and lies. But Kasich was a class act, at least from the moment he had a bit of Christian awakening after being a jerk at the start of the primaries. my dad met him and says “he’s a stand up guy” old school

  2. who cares about Lyin’ Ted? Lyin’ted, lol I laugh every time i say it. billy clinton was right when he said that Trump is a master brander

  3. it’s too bad ted gave up. it would’ve been awesome to see a fight at the convention instead of a lame little show

  4. Cruz ran an amazing race. He woulda been better than Trump. and he really would’ve defended the Constitution. it’s so sad that now being a constitutionalist is an insult, like being a crank
